Macy Duxfield, 18, will be entering her first year of study at Victoria University studying Law, International Relations and Te Reo Maori. Having grown up in Whanganui, the interaction that her iwi and hapu have with the awa has influenced her to value the role that people have as kaitiaki- guardians of the whenua and wai. Macy is passionate about social justice and environmental protection and the role of youth advocacy in influencing and taking responsibility of state of the world they will inherit from the generations before. Through her school career Macy served on the Student Council, Board of Trustees and as Kaitataki (leader) of school. She was also a Youth Councillor of the Whanganui District Council Youth Committee for 5 years, chairing for one term.
