Volcanoes and Glaciers

The geologic processes that have led to the landforms of the Auckland Islands fit neatly into the Earth Systems achievement objective of the Planet Earth and Beyond strand of the curriculum. Volcanic eruptions, glacial erosion and sea level change are all processes that have influenced the final appearance of the islands.

The Science 1.13 achievement standard requires students to link geologic processes to the landforms. An assessment task, marking schedule and summary powerpoint is available for teachers and students.
