Kevin Shoebridge
Kevin Shoebridge is one of the few individuals that has successfully evolved from sailor to management in international yachting.
He has been involved in six round the word yachting campaigns, winning twice – once as part of Sir Peter Blake’s all conquering Steinlager 2 crew winning every leg of the race. He has also skippered his own campaign ‘Tyco’ in the 2001-02 Volvo Ocean Race.
Like Sir Peter Blake, Kevin transitioned from off shore sailing to the America’s Cup and is now involved in his 9th America’s Cup as COO of Emirates Team New Zealand.
He has been part of the winning New Zealand team each time they have won the oldest trophy in international sport, in 1995, 2000 & 2017.
Following the failed 2003 defence by Team New Zealand, when he was part of another syndicate, Kevin was bought back in with Grant Dalton to rebuild the team and bring the cup back to New Zealand and restore its pride in yachting.
It took 14 years, following a close challenge in 2007, and an agonising final race loss in San Fransisco in 2013 but succeeded in bringing the America’s Cup home in 2017 through highs and lows and all lessons learned along the way.
Kevin has been a central figure following each campaign in reviewing detail of success and failure, building culture and structuring roadmaps to success throughout his career.
Despite success in 2017, evolution, review and change continue for Emirates Team New Zealand lead by COO Kevin Shoebridge as the team focus on a successful defence in 2021.
