Elle Ueland
I work for BLAKE as a programme manager supporting the depth programmes, including BLAKE Inspire, Expeditions, and Ambassadors. I also support the delivery of the BLAKE NZ-VR programme in schools around Tāmaki Makaurau.
I am originally from Philadelphia in the United States and completed my bachelor’s degree in marine biology in Florida. Three years ago, I moved to Aotearoa New Zealand to pursue my masters in Marine Science at the University of Otago. My MSc investigated integrated multi-trophic aquaculture with green-lipped mussels and kelp, ultimately trying to determine which species would create the most sustainable aquaculture system. Through my studies, I grew my passion for science communication, outreach, and education in the environmental field and I am keen to continue educating everyone about the marine environment.
Outside of work and study, I enjoy exploring all New Zealand’s beautiful landscapes! Snorkelling, SCUBA diving, or hiking are my favourite! I absolutely love the outdoors, and I am so excited for the opportunity to work for BLAKE and educate tamariki and rangatahi around Aotearoa.
