Dr. David Shand
David is a General Practitioner with over 30 years experience working in Drury, South Auckland. After graduating from Auckland Medical School in 1981 he worked intermittently in the UK for 6 years before returning to Auckland in 1988. David’s post-graduate studies included Specialist Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Family Medicine. He provides teaching for medical students and trainee GP’s within the setting of his General Practice.
David was raised in Christchurch where he spent his early years fishing, skiing and tramping in the South Island where he developed an affinity and enjoyment for the outdoors. In recent years he has developed a passion for the sea, in particular snorkelling and spearfishing. He has attended the National New Zealand Spearfishing Championships both as a team competitor and as their medical support. This will be his first voyage with the Sir Peter Blake Expedition. Additionally he has a keen interest in travel and has travelled extensively in Europe, Afica,Asia and the Pacific. David is supported by his wife, Jo and three adult children who are living independently. He is delighted to be expecting his first grandchild in June.
