Siân Camp

Talofa lava. I am a BLAKE Programme Manager based in Tāmaki Makaruau, working across all BLAKE programmes. I grew up on Waiheke Island which sparked my love for the environment, animals, and sustainability.

I have a masters degree in Earth Science; which covers a range of topics including geology, climate, marine science, astrobiology, and natural hazards. My Masters focused on deep-sea sedimentology around the Hikurangi Margin and how turbidites can help us to understand climate cycles and forecast future large-scale earthquakes. I also completed my Honours in Astrobiology at the Rotokawa Power Station geothermal fields, focusing on geological and biological research to indicate potential life on Mars.

Before joining BLAKE I was a Sustainability professional in construction/infrastructure and tertiary education delivering Greenstar and Homestar buildings, and working to create more sustainable construction sites and building practices. I transitioned to corporate sustainability where I developed company environmental and sustainability strategies mainly around carbon reduction. This included creating carbon inventories to capture carbon footprints and implementing decarbonization initiatives to kick-start the journey to net-zero by 2050.

I enjoy science communication and getting out in nature and collecting rocks, so I am excited to combine my passions and inspire the next generation of kaitiaki!
