Andrew Sutcliffe
Andrew is in his second year at the University of Otago, studying a Bachelor of Applied Science in physics and modelling, with a particular interest in climate modelling and oceanography. Andrew grew up in Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington, and now resides in Ōtepoti/Dunedin. He has always had a keen interest in the environment since a year-long project he completed in year 8 on waste, and since then has gone on to volunteer for numerous groups, including possum trapping, Te Araroa track maintenance, and Kaibosh. His love for nature was spurred on through his completion of his Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh award, in which he was the tramp leader in year 13 – he loved teaching younger students how to respect, look after, and importantly enjoy the outdoors! Andrew is also a keen musician, footballer, public speaker, and enjoys taking on any sort of challenge.
Andrew attended BLAKE Inspire in 2020, and is thrilled to join the Sub-Antarctic Islands expedition; he is looking forward to working with and learning from scientists in the field, navy personnel, and building great relationships with fellow students.
