The Halberg Foundation held their Halberg Games South 2022 on October 1st in Ōtautahi. This regional Halberg Games festival saw young people aged 8-21 years with a physical or visual impairment take part in a variety of sports on offer from those giving it a go, to competitive sporting representation in swimming, athletics, golf, athletics, football, table tennis, archery, and more.

BLAKE, in collaboration with the Christchurch City Libraries, had the opportunity to offer their NZ-VR underwater virtual reality experience to the families staying at Rangi Ruru Girls College as part of the festival on Saturday evening. Participants had a blast, experiencing and learning about the ocean environment, the challenges those environments are facing and how to be kaitiaki for the ocean.

Our participants have possibly never been under the water in a dive situation, due to their disabilities, so this experience may develop their interest to do this, as well as being a great way of teaching about the environment before they go out into it. All participants were completely engaged.” – Halberg Games NZ-VR experience participant

Congratulations to all of the athletes for taking part in the Halberg Games South!
